Mountainscape Cabinet

$8000 (Sold)

60” tall, 18” wide, 14” deep.

An absolute labor of love. I’m obsessed with mountains, and I spend as much time as I can in the Sierra Nevada every year backpacking or camping with my family. My wife is a painter, and originally painted the image that inspired the marquetry design for this piece.

I spent 6 months and more than 300 hours building TWO of these identical cabinets. One is for me to keep, the other is for you to enjoy in your home or office.

The primary species is Eucalyptus, and the interior is lined with Cypress, with Jatoba, Canarywood, Mahogany and Curly Maple for the marquetry veneer. The marquetry wraps all the way around the curved front, sides and back of the piece. The splayed legs make it very stable, even with the door open. I’ve incorporated a hidden latch, which can be opened with a magnetic key (round object in 4th photo). The tempered glass shelf is adjustable for height. I imagined mine as a whiskey cabinet, but I look forward to seeing what purpose you give your cabinet.
